ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have been swept by the Red Sox in a three game series in Tampa Bay. The Red Sox had rookie pitcher Nolen* making his major league debut, and he got some run support very early Jacoby Ellsbury hitting a lead-off home run to start the game. The Rays scored their first run in the second on a fielder's choice on a ground ball hit by Cliff Floyd, scoring Evan Longoria from third. The Rays tied it up later in the inning on an RBI double hit by Jason Bartlett, but the Red Sox reclaimed the lead in the third with a Manny Ramirez RBI single to take a one run lead. They would then extend that lead to two in the fourth on a Jason Varitek solo home run. Akinori Iwamura tied it up in the bottom of the inning two RBI double. Rocco Baldelli was injured on this play sliding safely into home plate, and had to be taken out of the game. His condition is currently unknown. The Red Sox retook the lead for good in the sixth on an RBI double hit by Jason Varitek, but Varitek wasn't quite done yet, hitting another home run to lead-off the ninth inning, as the Red Sox sweep the Rays.
